LAWMA, EKO 57 Partner to Mobilise Lagos Youths for Clean Environment

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has partnered with EKO 57 Support Group to mobilise young people across the state for environmental advocacy and improved waste management practices.

Eko Hot News reports that the collaboration aims to strengthen grassroots sensitisation efforts and promote cleaner communities throughout Lagos. It is expected to engage youths actively in campaigns that encourage responsible waste disposal and environmental sustainability.

Speaking at the Authority’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the partnership would expand advocacy efforts across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Gbadegesin noted that LAWMA remains a major employer of youths in Lagos, with over 100,000 individuals engaged directly and indirectly in its operations. He added that youth participation is key to improving service delivery and achieving long-term environmental goals.

He emphasised that young people possess the creativity and energy needed to drive awareness and influence positive behavioural change in communities. According to him, their involvement will help deepen environmental responsibility at the grassroots level.

The LAWMA boss reiterated the agency’s commitment to maintaining a clean city, noting that continuous collaboration with residents and stakeholders is essential. He said the Authority is open to partnerships that enhance its mission of environmental sustainability.

He further explained that LAWMA has been working closely with Community Development Associations and Community Development Committees to strengthen engagement. These efforts aim to address service concerns and encourage adherence to waste management guidelines.

Gbadegesin expressed confidence that the partnership with EKO 57 Support Group would amplify community outreach. He described the group as a strong grassroots movement capable of driving impactful sensitisation across the state.

Leaders of the group, Adams Kehinde and Remilekun Oshodi, commended LAWMA for the initiative. They noted that achieving a cleaner Lagos requires collective effort and active youth involvement.
