The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has carried out a compliance assessment visit to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) over the implementation of the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.

Eko Hot News reports that the visit was aimed at evaluating compliance with the Executive Order mandating the enrolment of staff members into the Lagos State health insurance programme.

During the assessment, officials confirmed that LAWMA staff members have already been enrolled under the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.

The agency also disclosed that the enrolment process for Project Staff and Street Sanitation Workers is currently ongoing.

According to officials, the exercise forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader effort to expand health insurance coverage and strengthen healthcare access for workers across the state.

The assessment team observed that LAWMA has also transitioned from monthly payment to annual payment under the health insurance scheme.

Officials described the development as a positive step toward ensuring sustainability and continuity in healthcare coverage for employees.

The Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme remains one of the key healthcare initiatives introduced to improve access to affordable and quality medical services for Lagos residents.

LASHMA

LASHMA noted that compliance by government agencies and institutions is important to achieving wider health insurance coverage across the state.

The agency also commended LAWMA for its cooperation and commitment toward implementing the health insurance policy.

Stakeholders say the inclusion of sanitation workers and project staff under the scheme will help improve healthcare access and welfare for essential workers.

The Lagos State Government has continued to intensify efforts toward mandatory health insurance enrollment through policy implementation and institutional collaboration.

Observers believe stronger compliance among public agencies will support the state’s goal of achieving universal health coverage.

The initiative aligns with ongoing healthcare reforms aimed at reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses for residents and workers.

Officials reaffirmed that health insurance remains a major tool for sustainable healthcare financing and improved public health outcomes.

LASHMA

The state government has also encouraged more organisations and institutions to comply fully with the Executive Order on mandatory health insurance.

LASHMA reiterated its commitment to monitoring compliance and supporting agencies in implementing the Ilera Eko scheme effectively.

The agency stated that continuous stakeholder engagement and awareness remain important for expanding participation in the programme.

The Lagos State Government continues to promote policies that strengthen healthcare delivery, worker welfare, and access to medical services across the state.
