The Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare delivery through stronger collaboration with facility management companies across Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the agency disclosed this during an interactive session held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, where stakeholders gathered to align strategies for enhanced service delivery in public health institutions.
The General Manager of LASIAMA, Adenike Adekanbi, explained that the initiative aims to relieve medical professionals of non-clinical responsibilities. She noted that facility managers will take full responsibility for operational services within hospitals.

According to her, this approach will allow doctors and healthcare workers to focus entirely on patient care. She added that services such as electricity, water supply, cleaning, and maintenance should be handled professionally by facility managers.
Adekanbi stressed that modern facility management extends beyond routine cleaning. She noted that companies must adopt structured waste management systems and deploy efficient tools to improve operations.
She also highlighted the need for behavioural change through proper signage and public awareness. According to her, educating users on proper waste disposal is key to maintaining clean and safe healthcare environments.

The LASIAMA boss stated that the session was organised to strengthen collaboration and clarify expectations between stakeholders. She added that the agency continues to expand its engagement with facility managers annually.
In his remarks, the Medical Director of Surulere General Hospital, M.O. Sojinrin, acknowledged the economic challenges facing facility managers. He called for a more responsive framework that reflects current realities.
Dr. Sojinrin emphasised the importance of collaboration between government and service providers. He noted that addressing operational challenges will enhance healthcare delivery across the state.

On waste management, a representative of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mojisola Adeleye, stressed the importance of structured waste segregation systems. She encouraged the use of colour-coded bins and compliance with disposal standards.
Representing the Lagos State Safety Commission, Festus Todowedo outlined key safety priorities for healthcare facilities. He noted that compliance is essential for protecting both lives and infrastructure.
He highlighted the need for proper registration and maintenance of elevators, adherence to fire safety protocols, and regular emergency drills tailored to hospital environments.
Todowedo also emphasised the importance of workplace wellbeing. He noted that measures to reduce staff fatigue and encourage open reporting of concerns are critical to a healthy work environment.

On sustainability, he called for improved bio-waste management systems and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices. He added that digital tracking of medical waste can enhance efficiency and accountability.
Participants at the session agreed on the need for regular safety audits and compliance certification. They also emphasised continuous training and retraining of personnel involved in facility management.
Stakeholders further recommended the deployment of enforcement teams to strengthen waste management practices in healthcare facilities. They noted that consistent monitoring will improve compliance.
The engagement reflects Lagos State’s broader commitment to institutionalising efficient infrastructure management. Officials noted that improved facility management will directly enhance healthcare delivery outcomes.
The state government reiterated its focus on ensuring that public health facilities operate at optimal standards. Stronger partnerships with facility managers are expected to support this goal.
