The General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has advised motorists across Lagos to place safety above all else during the yuletide season, as traffic volume and road activities increase.

Eko Hot News reports that the caution was contained in her Christmas message to the motoring public, where she noted that festive travel, combined with hazy weather conditions, often heightens the risk of road crashes if safety rules are ignored.

Mrs. Tiamiyu observed that the end-of-year period usually records heavy vehicular movement, long-distance travels, and increased social activities, all of which demand extra vigilance from drivers and other road users.

She stressed that road safety messages during the season consistently remind motorists that arriving alive and safely remains the greatest gift they can offer their loved ones.

The LASDRI General Manager urged drivers to avoid alcohol consumption before driving, shun distractions such as mobile phone use, and ensure adequate rest to reduce stress and fatigue while on the road.

She also advised motorists to obey speed limits, ensure all passengers use seat belts, and properly plan their journeys to maintain a calm and steady driving pace.

Mrs. Tiamiyu further encouraged road users to avoid unnecessary exposure to congested routes and adverse weather conditions, noting that this would reduce preventable crashes and allow emergency responders to focus on genuine emergencies.

She highlighted the role of continuous driver education in promoting safer roads and encouraged motorists to take advantage of LASDRI’s annual training programmes.

According to her, LASDRI operates about 15 training centres across Lagos State, providing opportunities for drivers to improve, refresh, and upgrade their driving skills.

She reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to promoting responsible driving behavior and reducing road traffic crashes, especially during high-risk festive periods.
