The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has strengthened its partnership with the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area through a courtesy visit aimed at enhancing efforts to prevent sexual and gender-based violence across the community.
Eko Hot News reports that the DSVA delegation met with the Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Moyosore Adebanjo, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The meeting focused on expanding collaboration to improve awareness, early reporting and access to support services for residents.
During the engagement, both parties explored practical strategies for leveraging the LCDA’s community structures to strengthen prevention initiatives and encourage timely referrals through established channels.
Discussions centred on community sensitisation campaigns, the establishment of ward-based Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Committees and enhanced capacity building for frontline personnel working within local communities.
The meeting also examined ways to increase public awareness of available reporting channels and support services. Officials stressed the importance of ensuring residents know where and how to seek assistance when necessary.
Another major focus was the engagement of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as community advocates. The initiative is expected to encourage grassroots awareness and promote positive behavioural change among residents.
Participants also discussed plans to establish a DSVA Community Response Desk within the LCDA. The proposed desk is intended to improve access to information, support services and coordinated responses at the community level.
The agency noted that Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas remain the closest level of government to residents. As a result, they play a vital role in promoting awareness, safeguarding communities and supporting preventive initiatives.
Officials emphasised that collaboration with local councils is essential to strengthening community-based interventions. They added that partnerships help improve coordination between government institutions and residents.
The DSVA reaffirmed its commitment to building a coordinated and survivor-centred response through sustained stakeholder engagement, public education and institutional support across Lagos State.
According to the agency, continuous collaboration with local governments will help strengthen safeguarding practices and improve access to prevention and response services for communities.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of encouraging early reporting through trusted and accessible channels. Officials said timely reporting supports effective intervention and helps improve service delivery.
Stakeholders agreed that regular community engagement, awareness campaigns and institutional partnerships remain critical to promoting safer neighbourhoods and protecting vulnerable residents.
The DSVA reiterated its commitment to fostering a culture that rejects domestic and sexual violence through education, collaboration and preventive action. It noted that sustained public participation is essential to achieving lasting progress.
The agency expressed optimism that its partnership with Onigbongbo LCDA will contribute to stronger community engagement, improved access to support services and a safer environment for all residents.
