The Lagos State Government has commenced its 2026 capacity-building programmes with a specialised training focused on budgetary and public expenditure management for civil servants.

Eko Hot News reports that the programme, organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training, targets officers in the Planning and Statistics Cadre and is being held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

The training, themed “Budgetary and Public Expenditure Management,” marks the first official capacity-building intervention of the year by the State Government, signalling renewed commitment to strengthening public service performance.

Declaring the programme open, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs Olubusola Abidakun, represented by the Director of Training, Mrs Modupe Animashaun, explained that officers in the Planning and Statistics Cadre were deliberately selected as the first beneficiaries of the 2026 training schedule.

She noted that the cadre plays a strategic role in government planning, budgeting, data analysis, and resource allocation, making their continuous professional development essential to effective governance.

Mrs Abidakun stated that the programme was designed to enhance participants’ competencies in budget preparation, implementation, monitoring, and prudent management of public expenditure in line with global best practices.

She urged participants to actively engage with the facilitators and take full advantage of the training to improve their technical skills and decision-making capacity.

According to her, strengthening budgetary discipline and expenditure management across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies remains critical to achieving value for money and improved service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to sustained capacity building, describing human capital development as a key pillar of efficient governance.

She added that continuous training of civil servants remains central to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of a professional, responsive, and performance-driven public service.

Participants at the programme are expected to apply the knowledge gained to improve fiscal planning, accountability, and transparency across the Lagos State Civil Service.
