Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of an additional 150 firefighters to strengthen emergency response and improve public safety across the state.

Eko Hot Newsreports that the approval was disclosed by the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Mrs Margaret Adeseye, during the flag-off of the LSFRS Squad 23 training exercise in Ikeja.

Adeseye said the recruitment reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s sustained commitment to building a resilient, professional, and well-equipped fire and rescue service capable of responding effectively to emergencies.

She recalled that the present administration recruited 100 firefighters in 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, to strengthen frontline emergency response at a critical period.

According to her, the state also recorded the highest single recruitment in the history of the Fire Service in 2022, when 435 firefighters were enlisted to enhance operational capacity statewide.

She noted that the 2022 milestone was marked by a Passing Out Parade during the Service’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, alongside the commissioning of 62 fire appliances and new fire stations in Ajegunle, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru, Lekki.

Adeseye added that an ultra-modern Fire Service Headquarters was also commissioned at Alausa, Ikeja, further boosting institutional capacity.
