Obafemi Hamzt has officially entered the 2027 Lagos State governorship race after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms ahead of the election.
Eko Hot News reports that the Lagos State Deputy Governor announced the development through a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, describing his ambition as part of a continued commitment to public service, responsible leadership, and the development of Lagos State.

According to Hamzat, the journey toward building a greater Lagos remains ongoing, stressing that despite notable progress recorded by the current administration, more efforts are needed to create opportunities for residents, businesses, and families across the state.
“The journey to a greater Lagos continues,” Hamzat stated while expressing confidence in the future of the state and his readiness to serve with experience and purpose.

The deputy governor, a United Kingdom-trained engineer with a doctorate degree and extensive private sector experience, has served alongside Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019.
Before becoming deputy governor, Hamzat held key positions in Lagos State, including Commissioner for Science and Technology and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.
His governorship ambition comes amid growing support from influential stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), regarded as a major decision-making body within the Lagos APC structure, had earlier endorsed Hamzat as the party’s consensus candidate.
Reports also indicate that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and party leaders across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos have thrown their support behind his aspiration.
Further endorsements have reportedly come from groups including the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria and the Isokan Yoruba Group, signalling increasing momentum ahead of the APC governorship primaries.
Hamzat’s formal declaration is expected to intensify political activities in Lagos as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
