The Senate of Nigeria has approved the ₦2.2 trillion 2026 statutory appropriation bill for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), paving the way for major infrastructure and development projects in the nation’s capital.

Eko Hot News reports that the approved budget includes ₦165.7 billion for personnel costs, ₦378.2 billion for overhead expenses, and approximately ₦1.741 trillion earmarked for capital projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

Lawmakers explained that the budget is targeted at accelerating development in Abuja through investments in critical sectors such as road construction, healthcare, education, transportation, public utilities, and other essential infrastructure projects.

During deliberations on the appropriation bill, senators commended the strong emphasis placed on capital expenditure, describing it as necessary for improving public services and enhancing infrastructural growth within the FCT.

The Senate also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for ongoing developmental projects across Abuja.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, equally applauded Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting infrastructure development and governance reforms in the nation’s capital.

As part of measures to ensure transparency and accountability, the appropriation bill mandates the submission of monthly and quarterly implementation reports to the National Assembly for oversight and performance monitoring.

The approval of the budget is expected to boost ongoing infrastructure renewal and improve service delivery across the Federal Capital Territory in the 2026 fiscal year.
