The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District II, Mr Omotayo Layemo Sanni, has charged principals of public secondary schools to raise academic standards and strengthen school security across the district.

Eko Hot News reports that Mr Sanni gave the directive during a strategic meeting with principals, convened to review performance and set new targets for improved outcomes in external examinations, particularly WAEC and BECE.

He commended school heads for previous achievements but urged them to improve on existing results, stressing that Education District II must consistently aim higher in academic performance.

The TG/PS emphasised the importance of stakeholder engagement, noting that collaboration with parents, alumni, community leaders, and other partners remains critical to achieving sustainable academic success.

Addressing school safety, Mr Sanni expressed concern over rising insecurity in schools and disclosed plans by the government to recruit security personnel for public schools.

He advised principals to work closely with community leaders to recommend trustworthy and responsible individuals for engagement as school security operatives.

Mr Sanni also praised principals for students’ achievements in state and national competitions, urging them to sustain support for extracurricular activities that promote all-around student development.

Discussions during the meeting focused on strategies for outstanding WAEC and BECE results, with principals of high-performing schools invited to share best practices.

Mrs Bolanle Esho, Principal of Civil Service Junior Model College, Ikorodu, highlighted mentorship, a strong reading culture, and the “teach-your-topic” approach as effective academic tools.

Similarly, Mrs Yemisi Arogbodo of Aiyedere Ajibola Senior High School stressed effective promotion policies as key to improved performance.

The Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Mojisola Adeyemi-Fashola, clarified administrative issues, including SPADEV and data requirements by government agencies.

Insurance brokers assigned to schools also sensitised principals on best practices in managing insurance matters for lives and government property.

The meeting ended with renewed commitment by principals to academic excellence, safety, and effective school management across Education District II.
