Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the acquisition and planned procurement of 150 brand-new compactor trucks and additional tricycles to strengthen waste collection and environmental sanitation across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the new fleet is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to improve waste management services, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain a cleaner environment for residents.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the investment reflects his administration’s commitment to building a modern and sustainable waste management system capable of meeting the demands of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.

According to the governor, the acquisition of the compactor trucks will significantly improve waste evacuation across residential communities, commercial centres, and public spaces.

He added that the additional tricycles will complement the operations of the larger trucks by improving waste collection in densely populated neighbourhoods and locations with limited road access.

The governor noted that expanding the state’s waste collection fleet is essential to achieving cleaner streets and improving environmental health throughout Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in critical environmental infrastructure that supports sustainable urban development and enhances the quality of life for residents.

He explained that the expanded fleet will enable waste management agencies to respond more efficiently to increasing waste generation resulting from the state’s growing population.

The governor also stressed that effective waste collection remains a key component of his administration’s environmental sustainability agenda under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Development Agenda.

According to him, cleaner communities contribute to better public health, improved sanitation, and a more attractive environment for businesses and investors.

The planned deployment of the new compactor trucks is expected to improve turnaround times for waste evacuation and strengthen the capacity of waste operators across the state.

The additional tricycles will also support waste collection in inner streets and underserved communities where conventional compactor trucks may experience limited access.

The Lagos State Government has continued to introduce policies and investments aimed at modernising waste management while encouraging residents to adopt responsible waste disposal practices.

Environmental officials have repeatedly urged households and businesses to work with approved waste operators and support government initiatives designed to keep Lagos clean.

The latest investment underscores the state’s determination to improve environmental sanitation through modern equipment, efficient service delivery, and continuous infrastructure development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that his administration will continue investing in practical solutions that promote a healthier environment, strengthen waste management systems, and position Lagos as one of Africa’s leading clean and sustainable cities.
