China expert and author Gordon Chang has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to take a tougher stance against China, alleging that Beijing continues to support Iran with military equipment and intelligence.
Eko Hot News reports that Chang made the remarks during an interview on Newsmax’s Sunday Agenda, where he discussed China’s relationship with Iran and its implications for global security and regional stability.
According to Chang, China provided support to Iran during the recent conflict, claiming that Beijing supplied intelligence and other resources that strengthened Tehran’s military capabilities.
He also alleged that Chinese cargo aircraft travelled to Iran during the period of heightened tensions, suggesting they delivered equipment while operating under limited public visibility.
Chang described Iran as a key strategic partner of China, arguing that the relationship has expanded beyond economic cooperation to include broader security and geopolitical interests.
The foreign policy analyst further claimed that China has supported Iran’s nuclear programme over the years through technology, equipment, and other forms of assistance.
He noted that Beijing remains Iran’s largest trading partner and continues to maintain close diplomatic and economic ties under long-term cooperation agreements.
Chang argued that stronger action from the Trump administration against China’s support for Iran could influence developments in the Middle East and reduce regional tensions.
He said President Trump should increase pressure on Beijing if the United States intends to limit external support for Tehran.
According to Chang, failure to address China’s role could encourage further strategic cooperation between Beijing and Tehran in the future.
He also expressed concerns over the security of international shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, describing freedom of navigation as an important principle of U.S. foreign policy.
Chang maintained that ensuring the safety of global trade routes should remain a priority for Washington and its international partners.
His remarks came amid continued international attention on developments involving Iran, China, and the wider Middle East, with governments closely monitoring diplomatic and security issues in the region.
The comments also followed recent statements by President Trump warning that the United States would continue to protect its interests and international commercial shipping if necessary.
While Chang outlined several policy recommendations, they reflect his personal analysis and opinions on U.S.-China-Iran relations rather than official positions of the U.S. government.
The interview has added to ongoing discussions among policymakers and international observers about China’s growing influence in the Middle East and the future of U.S. foreign policy in the region.
