A facility management expert has praised the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for its ongoing Facility Management (FM) initiative, describing it as a key driver of improved healthcare delivery and economic growth across public health institutions in the state.
Eko Hot News reports that the commendation was made during a Facility Management Assessment Tour organized by the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), which is currently reviewing maintenance and service delivery standards in government-owned medical facilities.
Mr. Segun Adebayo, Managing Director of Pillars and Frames Ltd., said the decision to involve private sector facility managers in public healthcare operations has significantly improved efficiency, infrastructure maintenance, and overall service quality in Lagos hospitals.
He described the policy as “germane and impactful,” noting that it has created measurable value for both healthcare providers and residents who depend on public medical services across the state.
Adebayo explained that his firm currently manages integrated facility services in healthcare centres located in Badagry, covering sanitation, janitorial duties, waste handling, security operations, and equipment maintenance.
He added that the company operates a hybrid energy system combining generators, solar power, and grid electricity from Eko Electricity Distribution Company to ensure uninterrupted power supply within medical facilities.
According to him, stable electricity remains essential for effective healthcare delivery, especially in hospitals where critical medical procedures depend on constant energy availability.
The facility management expert also highlighted the importance of environmental safety, disclosing that the company follows strict medical waste segregation protocols to prevent contamination and protect public health.
He noted that hazardous waste is carefully separated using designated materials, while staff members undergo regular training to maintain high hygiene and safety standards across all facilities.
Adebayo, who is the immediate past President of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Nigeria, said the FM initiative has strengthened maintenance culture in Lagos public institutions and created sustainable economic opportunities for service providers.
He stated that the programme has also generated employment for technicians, cleaners, engineers, and security personnel working across Maternal and Child Care centres and other healthcare facilities in the state.
The expert further commended LASIAMA for institutionalising a structured maintenance framework that ensures public infrastructure remains functional and efficient over time.
He urged the Lagos State Government to expand the facility management model to more public institutions, stressing that the initiative has proven effective in improving operational performance and service delivery across the health sector.
