Lagos Launches Digital Training for Workers

The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of its Accelerated Digital Literacy Training Certification Programme aimed at equipping public servants with modern digital skills.

Eko Hot News reports that the initiative was officially launched at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), where the first batch of participants began training on Monday.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishment and Training, Olubusola Ajibola Abidakun, disclosed that the programme is designed to empower 1,000 public servants across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

She explained that the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Potenergy Limited and focuses on building essential 21st-century digital competencies among government workers.

Dr. Abidakun noted that the programme aligns with the ministry’s mandate on capacity development. She added that the training incorporates IC3 Certification and META Associate Level Certification to enhance global competitiveness.

According to her, the initiative ensures that Lagos public servants are not only digitally literate but also equipped with advanced skills required in a technology-driven work environment.

The training is scheduled to run in four intensive batches at the PSSDC, Magodo. It commenced on April 27 and will conclude on May 21, 2026, covering all selected participants.

Speaking on the structure, the Director of Training, Modupe Animashaun, said each batch will undergo four days of practical and hands-on learning sessions.

She explained that the curriculum has been carefully developed to address digital gaps within the public service. The programme goes beyond basic computer knowledge to professional-level digital literacy.

Mrs. Animashaun highlighted that the inclusion of META Associate Level Certification marks a significant advancement in the state’s training initiatives. She noted that it strengthens the capacity of officers to adapt to global digital standards.

She added that the programme aims to create a network of digital champions across MDAs. These trained officers are expected to drive digital transformation within their respective workplaces.

The initiative is also expected to improve service delivery to residents by promoting efficiency, innovation, and the use of technology in governance processes.

In his remarks, the Head of Learning and Development at Potenergy Limited, Udebuana Oscar, described the partnership as a major step in bridging the digital gap in the public sector.

He stated that the programme combines theoretical learning with practical applications based on international IC3 standards. This approach ensures participants gain relevant and applicable skills.

Mr. Oscar affirmed that Potenergy Limited is committed to delivering a high-quality training experience. He noted that participants will be equipped to navigate and excel in today’s digital economy.
