The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has reiterated its commitment to empowering women and young people across Lagos through targeted initiatives focused on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.

Eko Hot News reports that the reaffirmation came during the 4th graduation ceremony of Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA), where over 60,000 creatives were celebrated for successfully completing intensive training programmes spanning acting, filmmaking, scriptwriting, and stage production.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for WAPA, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, commended the academy for its significant role in youth empowerment and job creation within Nigeria’s growing creative industry. She highlighted the importance of sustained investment in the arts as a viable driver of economic growth and social development in the state.

Dada further reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that provide practical, market-relevant skills to individuals, enabling them to participate meaningfully in the economy.

Addressing the graduates, she urged them to remain focused and resilient in their career journeys. She emphasized that success should not be measured solely by fame but by the impact they make in society.

Earlier, the founder of TAFTA, Bolanle Austen-Peters, encouraged the graduates to take advantage of the vast opportunities within the creative economy and to remain confident despite challenges.

The Ministry also reiterated its dedication to expanding access to quality creative education and strengthening partnerships aimed at further developing Lagos State’s creative sector.
