The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Compliance drive has gained momentum as Lagos State Health District V and Oto Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) strengthened collaboration to enforce environmental standards across communities.

Eko Hot News reports that the Permanent Secretary of Health District V, Oladapo Asiyanbi, alongside the Chairman of Oto Awori LCDA, Kareem Azeez, led an inspection tour across Shibiri, Iyana-Era, Etegbin, and Imude communities to monitor residents’ compliance with the revived monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The initiative follows the reintroduction of the sanitation programme by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as part of efforts to address growing environmental concerns and restore cleanliness across the state in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda.

During the inspection, officials assessed adherence to waste management guidelines, identified sanitation gaps, and engaged residents on the importance of maintaining hygienic environments to support the state’s sustainability goals.

In a show of leadership, both Asiyanbi and Azeez actively participated in the exercise by clearing refuse and inspecting critical areas, reinforcing the government’s commitment to leading by example and encouraging grassroots participation.

They emphasised that proper waste disposal and collective responsibility remain key to preventing environmental hazards and disease outbreaks, urging residents to sustain sanitation practices beyond the monthly exercise.

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Compliance initiative, stakeholders say, is crucial to building a resilient and livable environment, as authorities continue to promote behavioural change and enforce sanitation regulations.

Lagos State Health District V reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health through continuous monitoring, community engagement, and strict enforcement of environmental standards, in alignment with the broader vision of a cleaner Lagos.
