Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in Lagos State and across Nigeria as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, urging them to embrace the virtues of peace, sacrifice, and national unity.

Eko Hot News reports that the governor made this known in a statement released on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, where he joined Muslims globally in commemorating the significant Islamic festival.

Sanwo-Olu described Eid-el-Kabir as a sacred celebration that symbolizes obedience to God, faith, patience, and selfless sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. He noted that the occasion remains one of the most profound spiritual reminders in Islam, calling believers to reflect on the importance of devotion and perseverance.

The governor stressed that the lessons of the festival go beyond religious observance, emphasizing the need for citizens to apply the values of sacrifice in their daily lives for the progress and development of society.

He explained that Nigeria’s unity and stability depend largely on the collective commitment of its citizens to peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.

Sanwo-Olu further urged residents of Lagos and Nigerians at large to draw inspiration from the story of Prophet Ibrahim, particularly his unwavering faith during trials, noting that such values are essential for building a stronger and more united nation.

He also cautioned against actions capable of undermining peace and harmony in the country, appealing to citizens to prioritize national interest above personal or sectional interests.

According to him, Eid-el-Kabir serves as a reminder that true devotion is reflected not only in worship but also in acts of kindness, sacrifice, and contributions toward societal development.

The governor reaffirmed the importance of unity in diversity, stating that the strength of Nigeria lies in its ability to accommodate different beliefs and cultures while working towards common goals.

Sanwo-Olu also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its drive to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and stable nation, stressing that nation-building is a collective responsibility.

He expressed optimism that with cooperation and understanding among citizens, Nigeria would overcome its challenges and achieve sustainable development.

The governor concluded by wishing all Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying for continued peace, stability, and progress in Lagos State and across the country.
