The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has partnered with the Lagos State Safety Commission to organise a safety sensitisation programme for staff.

Eko Hot News reports that the one-day training was held at the Ministry’s conference room. The session focused on improving safety awareness and reducing workplace risks.

The programme brought together management and staff of the Ministry. It aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge for handling emergencies.

In her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, emphasised the importance of safety. She was represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Taoreed Dosunmu.

She noted that safety should be treated as a daily responsibility. According to her, a strong safety culture improves productivity and protects lives.

She also highlighted the need for personal responsibility. Staff were encouraged to contribute to a safe working environment.

The training session was led by Oluwatosin Sobola. She delivered a presentation on safety practices and emergency response.

Sobola explained key safety concepts. She outlined the roles of emergency response agencies in Lagos State.

These include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency. Others are the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

She stressed the importance of contacting the right agency during emergencies. This ensures timely and effective response.

The session also covered common workplace hazards. These include physical, electrical, and environmental risks.

Participants were introduced to preventive measures. These include proper handling of equipment and maintaining safe spaces.

She advised against overloading electrical sockets. She also stressed the need for clear emergency exits.

Good housekeeping practices were highlighted. These help prevent slips, falls, and other avoidable incidents.

Staff were encouraged to identify hazards early. Prompt reporting of unsafe conditions was also emphasised.

Sobola urged participants to follow established safety guidelines. She noted that consistency is key to prevention.

The training extended beyond the workplace. Participants received tips on road safety and home safety practices.
