Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on residents across Lagos State to actively participate in the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Eko Hot News reports that the Governor made the appeal ahead of the exercise scheduled to hold between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., stressing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment.
He noted that building a greater Lagos goes beyond infrastructure projects, highlighting the need for residents to take ownership of their surroundings.
Sanwo-Olu explained that environmental care plays a vital role in protecting public health and sustaining the state’s infrastructure.
He pointed out that blocked drainage systems and improper waste disposal continue to pose challenges in many communities across the state.
According to him, simple actions such as clearing gutters and properly packaging waste can significantly reduce environmental risks.

The Governor urged residents, landlords, and business owners to take part by cleaning their immediate surroundings during the exercise.
He added that proper waste management will support the efforts of waste management authorities in maintaining a cleaner city.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the sanitation exercise is not solely a government initiative but a shared responsibility among all Lagosians.
He encouraged citizens to take pride in their neighbourhoods by maintaining cleanliness without the need for enforcement.
The Governor also highlighted the long-term benefits of environmental sanitation, including reduced flooding and improved public health outcomes.
He reiterated that consistent participation in the monthly exercise will help create a more sustainable and livable city.
Sanwo-Olu further noted that Lagos’ fast-paced lifestyle should not prevent residents from prioritising environmental hygiene.

He urged communities to work together in ensuring that streets, drainage systems, and public spaces remain clean.
The Governor expressed confidence that with collective effort, Lagos can achieve a cleaner and healthier environment.
He concluded by calling for sustained commitment from all stakeholders to support the success of the sanitation initiative.
The reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise reflects the government’s renewed focus on environmental sustainability.
Residents are expected to comply and contribute meaningfully to improving the overall outlook of the state.
The initiative is also aligned with broader efforts to enhance urban living standards and promote environmental awareness.
