The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has reaffirmed its preparedness to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment across the state during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Eko Hot News reports that the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed that the Authority has activated a comprehensive waste management plan to manage the expected surge in waste generation during the festive period.
According to the statement, LAWMA has deployed additional waste evacuation trucks, sanitation personnel, and supervisory teams to strategic locations across the state to ensure uninterrupted waste collection.
The areas of focus include major highways, markets, motor parks, residential neighborhoods, and other high-traffic public spaces expected to experience increased activity during the holidays.

Dr. Gbadegesin noted that collaboration with Private Sector Participants, Community Development Associations, and market leaders has been strengthened to promote compliance with approved waste collection schedules.
He stressed that all PSP operators have been mandated to maintain effective service delivery before, during, and after the festivities, warning that service lapses would not be tolerated.
The LAWMA boss urged residents to properly bag their waste, avoid indiscriminate dumping, and use designated waste collection points to support sanitation efforts.
He also encouraged Lagosians to adopt waste reduction practices, including the use of reusable bags and containers, to minimise littering during celebrations.
Dr. Gbadegesin assured residents that LAWMA intervention and enforcement teams would remain on duty throughout the festive season to promptly address waste build-up and environmental violations.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution around waste evacuation points to ensure the safety of sanitation workers operating extended shifts.
