The Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON) has concluded a three-day strategic retreat for its senior and management staff, marking a significant step toward improving institutional performance and workforce efficiency.
Eko Hot News reports that the retreat served as a platform for evaluating the College’s current operations while developing forward-looking strategies to enhance productivity, strengthen workforce capacity, and improve overall organisational effectiveness.
The retreat, held at the Royal Orchid Hotel, brought together key leaders to review priorities and chart a new direction for growth.

Declaring the retreat open, the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, described the initiative as timely and essential. He noted that the programme aligns with the need for institutions to adapt to evolving demands in both education and healthcare sectors.
Kasali emphasised the importance of continuous development, stating that improvement remains a constant requirement in today’s dynamic environment. He encouraged participants to embrace new skills and innovative approaches to remain relevant in the 21st century workforce.

He further described the retreat as an interactive forum designed to promote collaboration and open dialogue. According to him, the sessions would lead to the development of Strategic Institutional Objectives (SIOs) and practical frameworks to address operational challenges within the College.
Kasali noted that the ideas and strategies developed during the retreat would serve as templates for future operations. He expressed confidence that the outcomes would significantly enhance institutional effectiveness upon implementation.
The Permanent Secretary also commended the leadership of the Provost for strengthening institutional management and improving stakeholder engagement. He acknowledged the continued support of the Lagos State Government, particularly Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in advancing tertiary education.
In her remarks, the representative of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Mrs. Kemi Salau, described the retreat as both timely and impactful. She highlighted the importance of embracing change as a pathway to innovation and sustainable growth.

Salau encouraged participants to reflect deeply on their roles and contribute meaningfully to discussions. She noted that while change may present challenges, it ultimately drives progress and strengthens institutional resilience.
Delivering her welcome address, the Provost, Dr. Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa, described the retreat as an opportunity for renewed focus and alignment. She stated that the engagement goes beyond routine planning and serves as a platform for strengthening teamwork across all levels.
Ogunmuyiwa emphasised the importance of building a productive and balanced work culture. She expressed optimism that the retreat would position the College as a leading institution known for academic excellence and a supportive environment.

She also highlighted the need for collaboration among staff, noting that shared goals and collective efforts are essential for achieving sustainable growth. According to her, the retreat provides the structure needed to align institutional objectives with long-term development plans.
At the end of the sessions, participants reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the strategies developed during the retreat. The focus remains on enhancing operational efficiency and improving workforce effectiveness across the College.

As part of its broader capacity-building efforts, LASCON had earlier organised a one-day retreat for junior staff on Grade Levels 1 to 8 on April 10, 2026. This initiative reflects the College’s inclusive approach to staff development.
Together, both retreats highlight LASCON’s commitment to building a cohesive, resilient, and forward-looking workforce. The College continues to strengthen its foundation as it prepares to meet future challenges in the education and healthcare sectors.
