Vice President JD Vance has praised Tulsi Gabbard following her decision to resign from the Trump administration.
Eko Hot News reports that Gabbard announced she would step down as Director of National Intelligence at the end of June due to a family medical emergency.
According to her resignation letter, her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
The former Hawaii congresswoman described the decision as deeply personal rather than political.
Gabbard explained that she wanted to remain close to her husband during his treatment and recovery process.
Vice President Vance reacted to the announcement in a message shared on social media platform X.
He described Gabbard as a patriot, loyal confidante and valuable member of the administration.
Vance also expressed sympathy for the family and offered prayers during what he called a difficult period.
He stated that family responsibilities must always come first.
Gabbard had served as Director of National Intelligence since February 2025.
Before joining the administration, she was known for her military background and political career in Congress.
In her resignation letter to President Donald Trump, Gabbard thanked him for the opportunity to lead the intelligence community.
She said she appreciated the trust placed in her throughout her service.
Gabbard reflected on her years of public service, including military deployments and national political campaigns.
She described her husband as a strong pillar of support throughout their marriage and career journey.
President Trump also responded publicly after the resignation became official.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump praised Gabbard for what he called her outstanding service to the administration.
He expressed confidence that her husband would recover successfully from the illness.
Trump noted that Gabbard’s departure was understandable given the circumstances surrounding her family.
The President added that the administration would miss her contributions and leadership.
The White House confirmed that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Aaron Lukas, will serve in an acting capacity after her departure.
Political observers say Gabbard’s resignation marks a significant change within the administration’s national security leadership.
Supporters of the former intelligence chief have praised her commitment to both public service and family responsibilities.
Analysts note that her resignation comes during a period of heightened global security and diplomatic challenges for the United States.
Despite stepping down, Gabbard remains widely respected within conservative political circles and among military veterans.
The administration has not yet announced plans for a permanent replacement following her exit at the end of June.
