The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has formally accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.
Eko Hot News reports that Hamzat expressed deep gratitude to party leaders, members and supporters for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the party’s governorship bid.
He described his nomination as a humbling honour and reaffirmed his commitment to serving Lagos residents across all sectors of society.
Hamzat noted that his political journey began in Mushin and has been shaped by years of public service, dedication and commitment to improving lives.
He explained that over the past two decades, he has worked alongside leaders who contributed to the development and progress of Lagos State.
According to him, governance is challenging but achievable when guided by vision, discipline and genuine service to the people.
He emphasized that his experience as Deputy Governor has given him deeper insight into managing a complex megacity like Lagos.
Hamzat stated that his decision to contest was driven by a desire to build a more inclusive and functional Lagos for all residents.
He said his administration would prioritize every segment of society, including traders, artisans, professionals and business owners across the state.
The APC candidate pledged improved investment in key sectors such as transportation, education, healthcare, security and job creation.
He stressed the importance of building a Lagos where no citizen is left behind regardless of background or economic status.
Hamzat added that his vision is to create opportunities that allow young people to achieve their dreams and reach their full potential.
He acknowledged the achievements of the current administration but noted that more work remains to be done.
According to him, Lagos must continue to evolve into a city that delivers better services and improved quality of life for residents.
The Deputy Governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and political mentorship over the years.
He also appreciated the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Governance Advisory Council for their backing.
Hamzat further expressed gratitude to APC leaders across Lagos State’s local governments and LCDAs for their continued support.
He extended appreciation to his family, especially his wife and children, for their sacrifices and encouragement throughout his political journey.
Party stakeholders have described his acceptance speech as a reaffirmation of continuity and stability within the Lagos APC structure.
Political observers say Hamzat’s entry into the 2027 race strengthens the party’s internal positioning ahead of the elections.
The APC is expected to intensify consultations and mobilization efforts as it prepares for a competitive but strategic governorship contest.
Hamzat concluded by urging unity among party members and supporters as preparations continue toward the 2027 elections.
He assured Lagosians that his focus remains on delivering progress, stability and inclusive development across the state.
