The Lagos State Government has strengthened its youth empowerment drive with the graduation of 500 participants under its Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) programme.
Eko Hot News reports that the graduation ceremony was held at the Sam Shonibare Auditorium in Surulere, under the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.
The programme was themed “Empowering the Youths: From Knowledge to Income” and ran for six weeks of intensive vocational training.
Participants were trained in key skills such as computer and phone repairs, photography and videography, graphic design, cosmetology and mixology.
The initiative is part of the state government’s strategy to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance among young people.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to practical skills development.
He noted that the training was designed to turn knowledge into sustainable income opportunities for participants.
Ajigbotafe added that the state government is focused on creating pathways for youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
He explained that participants were trained by experienced professionals to ensure industry readiness and productivity.
The Commissioner urged the graduates to apply their skills to build successful businesses and contribute to economic development.
He described them as future ambassadors of excellence within their communities.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lolade Aina, encouraged beneficiaries to embrace entrepreneurship and financial independence.
She said the government has provided start-up kits to help them begin their businesses immediately after training.
Aina also highlighted the role of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund in supporting young entrepreneurs with access to funding.
She added that beneficiaries can access a ₦250,000 start-up loan facility to grow their businesses.
According to her, applicants must present required documents including LASSRA ID, training certificate, TIN and valid identification.
She commended facilitators and development partners for ensuring the success of the programme.
Aina reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining youth empowerment and skills development initiatives across Lagos State.
Highlights of the ceremony included certificate presentations, distribution of start-up kits and exhibitions of participants’ projects.
Stakeholders praised the programme as a practical step toward reducing unemployment and promoting inclusive economic growth.
Participants expressed appreciation to the government for equipping them with skills to achieve financial independence.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its focus on expanding vocational training opportunities for more youths across the state.
