The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen data management and accountability within Nigeria’s education sector.
Eko Hot News reports that the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, convened a major stakeholder meeting on the National Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) initiative.
The platform is designed to improve planning, resource allocation, and policy execution across all levels of education in the country.
Officials said the initiative addresses long-standing gaps in education data that have affected effective decision-making.
According to the Minister, over 32 million learners and more than 220,000 schools across 21 states have already been captured on the system.
The NEDI platform is expected to enhance transparency and support evidence-based governance in the education sector.
It will also enable continuous learner tracking from enrollment through to employment stages.

The initiative aims to strengthen identity verification and reduce cases of examination malpractice and related irregularities.
Government representatives said the system will also help eliminate fake institutions and improve regulatory oversight.
The platform is expected to support better teacher deployment and workforce planning across the country.
Officials noted that infrastructure development in schools will be guided by accurate and centralized data.

The system will also assist in identifying out-of-school children and vulnerable learners for targeted interventions.
Education planners say the initiative will improve curriculum alignment with labour market demands.
The Ministry stated that the project is part of broader reforms to modernize Nigeria’s education system.
Stakeholders at the meeting described NEDI as a transformative step toward digital education governance.

The platform is expected to improve coordination among federal, state, and local education authorities.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that data-driven planning will enhance accountability and service delivery.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a smarter and more efficient education system nationwide.
