Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured residents that the Alakija Bridge remains safe and structurally sound following an attempt to damage part of the public infrastructure.
Eko Hot News reports that Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance after inspecting the bridge and assessing the situation following the incident.
The governor said there was no cause for alarm, stressing that the bridge remains safe and ready for use by motorists and other road users.
Sanwo-Olu commended security personnel for their swift response in securing the area and preventing further damage to the bridge.
He specifically acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Police, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Task Force, Kick Against Indiscipline and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
According to the governor, some individuals suspected to be involved in the incident have already been taken into custody.
He added that security agencies were continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the attempt.
Sanwo-Olu warned that the Lagos State Government would not tolerate attempts to damage public infrastructure across the state.
He said anyone found responsible for damaging government property would be made to face the appropriate legal consequences.
The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor.
He noted that the ongoing clean-up exercise along the corridor was already producing visible improvements.
