The United States has announced an expansion of its military operations targeting sites in southern Iran, while Iranian authorities have reported impacts in Bushehr province amid escalating regional tensions.
Eko Hot News reports that the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Tuesday that American forces carried out operations against what it described as military targets in Bushehr province and several other locations along Iran’s southern coastline. CENTCOM stated that the operation did not target the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
According to CENTCOM, the operation focused on coastal defence systems, missile-related facilities, drone infrastructure and other military sites. The command said the objective was to reduce threats to international shipping and U.S. and allied forces operating in the region.
Iranian officials, meanwhile, said several locations in Bushehr city were affected, while Iranian state media reported explosions in parts of the province and said air defence systems had been activated. The claims from both sides have not been independently verified.
The latest developments follow renewed tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. The waterway remains critical to global energy supplies and international commerce.
U.S. officials have maintained that recent operations are intended to protect freedom of navigation and safeguard commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has continued to reject U.S. actions and has previously stated that it will respond to measures it considers hostile.
International observers are closely monitoring the situation, with analysts warning that continued tensions could have broader implications for regional security and global energy markets.
Governments and international organisations have repeatedly urged restraint and called for renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
The evolving situation continues to attract global attention as developments unfold across the Middle East.
