The Lagos State Health District V has organised a stakeholders’ sensitisation programme aimed at strengthening awareness on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB), while addressing stigma, misinformation, and gaps in public health education.

Eko Hot News reports that the programme was held on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, at the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Secretariat Hall and brought together community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, health workers, and civil society organisations.

It focused on promoting preventive practices, encouraging early testing, and improving treatment adherence among residents across the district.

Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, said the initiative was designed to bridge information gaps and correct misconceptions surrounding both diseases.

He noted that stigma and discrimination remain major barriers preventing people from accessing timely and quality healthcare services.

Dr. Asiyanbi emphasized the role of community stakeholders in supporting government efforts to strengthen disease prevention and control.

He explained that the programme aligns with the Health and Environment pillar of the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

According to him, the state remains committed to accessible, affordable, and equitable healthcare delivery for all residents.

He urged participants to act as health ambassadors by promoting accurate information and encouraging residents to go for regular HIV and TB screening.

A health advocate and Executive Director of CEPHO, Mrs. Kadiri Oluseyi, stressed the importance of collective responsibility in addressing both HIV and TB.

She said sustained awareness and community engagement are essential in reducing the spread and impact of the diseases.

Participants were educated on causes, transmission, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment options for HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.

Special focus was placed on HIV testing, adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), and TB screening practices.

Health experts also highlighted the strong link between HIV and TB, noting that tuberculosis remains a leading opportunistic infection among people living with HIV.

Stakeholders were encouraged to support affected individuals and promote inclusive communities free from discrimination.

The session also reinforced the global HIV 95-95-95 targets aimed at ending AIDS as a public health threat.

Participants called for stronger community participation in health campaigns and improved access to medical services.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare systems through sustained education, partnerships, and community-driven interventions.

Officials noted that continuous engagement remains key to building healthier communities across the state.
