The Lagos State Government has intensified enforcement efforts within the Central Business District, leading to the arrest and prosecution of hundreds of traffic offenders across key locations.

Eko Hot News reports that the Special Adviser for the Office of the Central Business District, Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Olumegbo-Lawal, disclosed that 859 traffic offenders were arrested and prosecuted across Lagos Island and Ikeja during the period under review.

She noted that the enforcement exercise also covered 24 tricycles involved in various traffic violations, including illegal parking, U-turn offences, traffic light breaches, and one-way driving.

According to her, the enforcement drive is aimed at improving road discipline and ensuring safer and more orderly traffic flow within the CBD environment.

Olumegbo-Lawal stated that the office maintains a strict zero-tolerance approach to traffic indiscipline within its jurisdiction.

She added that complaints from members of the public are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability.

The Special Adviser revealed that seven officers were suspended for offences ranging from misconduct to insubordination.

She emphasized that disciplinary actions are taken where necessary to maintain professionalism and integrity within the enforcement team.

Olumegbo-Lawal explained that continuous monitoring and internal accountability remain key to sustaining public trust in enforcement operations.

She also highlighted the proactive role of the CBD enforcement team in emergency response situations across Lagos State.

According to her, the team has become a first responder during incidents such as fire outbreaks and building collapses within the central business areas.

She recalled the response to the Great Nigeria Insurance Building fire incident on Christmas Eve 2025, where officers quickly alerted relevant agencies.

She said the team worked closely with sister agencies and the Armed Forces to manage the situation effectively and ensure coordinated emergency response.

Olumegbo-Lawal reaffirmed the commitment of the CBD office to maintaining order, safety, and rapid response capability within Lagos business districts.
