The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has organised a training workshop for industries on sustainable practices in the operation and maintenance of pollution abatement plants across Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the workshop was held at Assbifi Events and Suites and focused on improving environmental compliance and sustainable industrial operations.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi Akodu, described the programme as an important initiative for strengthening pollution management in Lagos.
He explained that the annual workshop helps assess compliance levels among industries while identifying operators who require additional support and training.
According to him, the initiative also encourages industries to adopt self-regulation and improve environmental performance through better waste and effluent management.
Akodu noted that sustained monitoring and awareness efforts are gradually improving compliance levels across the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Omobolaji Tajudeen Gaji, represented by Deputy Director Adeniran Ademola, stressed the importance of sustainable practices in pollution control operations.
He emphasised that health, safety, and quality control should remain central to industrial processes and environmental management systems.
The official also encouraged continuous training and the adoption of advanced technologies to meet evolving industry demands.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, Mamud Adegbite, represented by Oyedele James, commended LASEPA for organising the workshop.
He noted that efficient management of pollution abatement facilities is important for protecting public health and preserving environmental standards.

The General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi, highlighted the growing importance of modern technologies in pollution monitoring and control.
According to him, industries are increasingly adopting systems such as scrubbers and AI-enabled monitoring tools to improve environmental performance.
Ajayi revealed that compliance levels have improved in recent years due to regular monitoring and enforcement activities carried out by the agency.
He stated that many industries have already installed pollution control systems, leading to reduced emissions and improved operational standards.
The General Manager also reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcement, noting that non-compliant operators may face sanctions in accordance with environmental regulations.
The Head of the Legal Unit at LASEPA, Temitope Kayode, explained the agency’s enforcement procedures during the workshop.
She emphasised the importance of compliance with environmental laws, standards, and due process in industrial operations.

Participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop to improve pollution management practices within their facilities.
