At the Local Government Secretariat, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Babatunde Hunpe, officially flagged off the exercise by planting trees within the premises.

Speaking during the event, Hunpe commended LASPARK for partnering with the local government to advance environmental sustainability in Lagos State.

He noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts aimed at improving air quality, reducing environmental degradation, and promoting healthier communities.

According to the chairman, tree planting represents a long-term investment in ecological balance, public health, and environmental wellbeing.

He also stressed the importance of urban greening in addressing rising temperatures, erosion, flooding, and other environmental concerns linked to rapid urbanisation.

Hunpe highlighted the environmental benefits of trees, noting that they help absorb carbon emissions, improve biodiversity, provide shade, and reduce heat intensity.

He explained that coastal communities like Badagry stand to benefit significantly from sustained environmental protection initiatives.

The chairman encouraged residents, schools, market communities, and stakeholders to nurture and protect the newly planted trees.

He urged the public to support initiatives focused on creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Lagos.
