The Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, under the Ministry of Tertiary Education, has held its Y2026 Stakeholders’ Forum on Non-Formal Vocational Training aimed at empowering residents through skills development.

Eko Hot News reports that the forum was held at the Debt Management Office Ikeja and brought together educators, instructors, government officials, and stakeholders to strengthen vocational education in Lagos State.

The event focused on empowering out-of-school youths and unskilled adults through vocational training, innovation, and entrepreneurship development.

In her address, the Director of LSAME, Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, highlighted the agency’s mandate to improve instructional capacity and promote skills acquisition.

She explained that the annual forum serves as a platform to foster collaboration and enhance non-formal education initiatives across the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Kasali Adeniran, commended the agency for sustaining the programme.

He described the initiative as a valuable contribution to societal development and youth empowerment.

He also noted that the programme aligns with the THEMES Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which promotes inclusive growth and sustainable opportunities.

The first session of the forum was anchored by Jola Okebiorun on strengthening instructors for effective vocational training.

She discussed challenges affecting vocational education, including financial constraints and issues facing out-of-school children.

She also highlighted the importance of innovation, productivity, and confidence among trainees and instructors.

The second session was facilitated by Foluso Ogunjinmi, who spoke on transitioning from skills acquisition to enterprise development.

She shared personal experiences in building her career as a master of ceremonies.

She emphasised the role of vocational training in promoting entrepreneurship, economic growth, and self-reliance.

The third session was led by Silifat Yetunde Giwa, who focused on wellness and mental health management.

Participants at the forum also engaged in discussions on improving vocational training delivery across Lagos State.
