The Lagos State Government has called on residents to actively participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 25.
Eko Hot News reports that the exercise will take place across all divisions of the state between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with residents expected to clean their surroundings before going about their daily activities.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasised the importance of the exercise. He urged households to clear drains and maintain proper waste disposal practices.
According to him, adequate arrangements have been made to ensure efficiency. Waste evacuation trucks and compactors will be deployed across the state.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has been positioned to promptly remove collected waste. This is aimed at preventing accumulation and ensuring a cleaner environment.
Wahab noted that the government is committed to maintaining environmental standards. He said the sanitation exercise is part of broader efforts to improve public health.
To demonstrate commitment, top government officials will monitor the exercise. The First Lady, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, will lead a team across selected areas.
She will be supported by members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials. Their involvement highlights the importance of community participation.

The Head of Service, Bode Agoro, will also lead a separate monitoring team. This will ensure coverage across different local government areas.
Transport unions in the state have pledged support for the exercise. They will restrict vehicle movement during the sanitation period.
This measure is expected to encourage full compliance. It will also allow residents to focus on cleaning their environment.
Community Development Associations have been encouraged to mobilise members. Their participation is key to achieving widespread impact.
Local governments and Local Council Development Areas are also involved. They will provide tools and logistics to support the exercise.
Private sector partners have joined the initiative. Their contributions include equipment and waste evacuation support.

Environmental health officers will be deployed to monitor compliance. They will ensure that residents adhere to sanitation guidelines.
Wahab stated that defaulters will be issued notices where necessary. This is in line with existing environmental regulations.
The government reiterated that the exercise is for public benefit. It aims to promote cleaner surroundings and healthier communities.
Residents have expressed support for the initiative. Many believe it will improve environmental conditions across the state.
The reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise follows public demand. Residents had called for a structured approach to environmental cleanliness.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier announced the return of the exercise. He led a monitoring team during a previous sanitation activity.
The government continues to encourage consistent participation. Sustained efforts are expected to yield long-term benefits.
The sanitation exercise remains a key component of Lagos’ environmental strategy. It reflects the state’s commitment to sustainable urban living.
Residents are urged to take responsibility for their surroundings. Collective action will contribute to a cleaner and more livable Lagos
