The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed three residential properties along the Lekki–Ajah axis over environmental nuisance and unlawful wastewater disposal, posing risks to public health and sustainability.

Eko Hot News reports that the enforcement exercise was carried out as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb environmental pollution and protect residents from health hazards linked to poor wastewater management.

One of the sealed properties is located at No. 3, Police Commissioner Street, Balogun Town, opposite Fara Park Estate, Lekki, where residents were found discharging wastewater indiscriminately into a dug pit.

LSWMO officials described the act as environmentally harmful and a direct threat to public health within the surrounding community.

Another property at No. 53/55, Miracle Avenue, United Estate, Sangotedo, was sealed for unlawfully attaching a pumping machine to a septic tank.

The illegal setup enabled the discharge of untreated faecal waste directly into public drains, a violation of environmental regulations and a serious public health concern.

In a separate action, No. 2, Godwin Oise Close, off Akinnagbe Street, Badore, Ajah, was sealed for illegally laying pipes that discharged untreated faecal waste into nearby wetlands.

LSWMO said the activity polluted the environment and endangered the local ecosystem, including water bodies and the surrounding land.

Reacting to the enforcement, the General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi warned against deliberate environmental violations across the state.

He stressed that indiscriminate discharge of wastewater and faecal sludge is a serious offence that endangers lives and degrades the environment.

Afolabi reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing wastewater regulations without compromise to ensure a cleaner and safer city.

He urged residents, property owners, and facility managers to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices.
