The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) has hosted the Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Hon. Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije, and his management team on a study tour aimed at strengthening inter-state collaboration and knowledge exchange on urban renewal.
Eko Hot News reports that the delegation was received by the General Manager of LASURA, Dr Animashaun Oladimeji, alongside the Directors of the Agency.
He outlined LASURA’s mandate to promote orderly urban development, enhance living conditions, and support Lagos State’s vision of a resilient, inclusive megacity, while reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to knowledge-sharing partnerships.

The study tour featured technical presentations on completed and ongoing urban renewal projects across Lagos. These included digital mapping of blighted areas, resettlement and regeneration programmes, and detailed discussions on policy implementation frameworks.
Participants also engaged in interactive sessions focusing on inter-agency collaboration, funding models, stakeholder and community engagement, as well as the role of relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in delivering sustainable urban development outcomes.

Commending LASURA’s achievements, Hon. Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije described the visit as timely and impactful. He noted that lessons drawn from Lagos State’s urban renewal strategies would be adapted to strengthen Abia State’s urban development initiatives.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration, experience sharing and capacity building, with a shared goal of improving urban environments and quality of life in their respective states.

The visit further positions LASURA as a reference institution in urban renewal practice and reinforces cooperative ties between Lagos State and Abia State in advancing sustainable urban development across Nigeria.
