The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has urged motorists to embrace responsible parking habits as the state prepares to roll out its structured On-Street Parking Programme.
Eko Hot News reports that the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, said the initiative is aimed at creating a safer, more organised and efficient parking system across Lagos State.
Speaking on the activities of the Authority, Adelabu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving parking management through policies that promote order, accountability and public convenience.
She explained that motorists should begin to make parking arrangements part of their daily travel plans instead of searching for parking spaces only after reaching their destinations.
According to her, every trip should begin with proper planning. She advised road users to consider their destination, the most suitable means of transportation and the nearest approved parking facilities before leaving home.
Adelabu said responsible parking would help reduce traffic congestion while improving road safety and accessibility across the state.
She also announced that LASPA has completed the planning, testing and system improvements required for the implementation of the enhanced On-Street Parking Programme.
The General Manager disclosed that designated roads across Lagos will be clearly identified to indicate approved parking locations, paid parking zones and areas where parking is prohibited.
She urged motorists to pay close attention to road signs and pavement markings, including red lines, single yellow lines and double yellow lines, as these are essential to effective traffic management.
According to Adelabu, understanding and obeying these markings will contribute significantly to smoother traffic flow and improved road safety.
She noted that paid parking is already familiar to many Lagos motorists, adding that the new initiative is designed to improve transparency and accountability in the management of public parking spaces.
Adelabu explained that the reform will ensure that parking fees are collected through a regulated system that benefits the public and supports better service delivery.
She said the initiative is intended to eliminate unregulated parking collections while establishing a uniform process for parking administration across the state.
The LASPA boss stressed that the Authority remains committed to providing a modern parking system that aligns with global urban management standards.
She added that effective parking management is an important component of creating a more organised, accessible and economically vibrant city.
Adelabu called on residents to support the initiative by complying with all parking regulations and respecting designated parking areas.
