The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing housing projects across the state by strengthening project monitoring and enforcing contractor accountability.
Eko Hot News reports that the Lagos State Ministry of Housing has stepped up inspections of major housing projects to ensure contractors deliver quality developments within agreed timelines. The move is aimed at increasing housing supply and improving access to affordable homes for residents.
The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, led an inspection team to the Lagos State Housing Estate Sangotedo Phase II Scheme and two joint venture projects within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate. He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, and other senior technical officials.
During the inspection, the commissioner expressed concern over the slow pace of work by some contractors. He stressed that any contractor unable to meet project deadlines could face replacement if significant improvements are not made.
According to the Ministry, the inspection forms part of routine monitoring to evaluate construction progress, resolve technical challenges, and ensure housing projects meet approved standards of quality and durability.
Speaking at the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate, Hon. Akinderu-Fatai disclosed that the estate currently has four ongoing housing projects with more than 600 housing units under construction. He said the developments remain a major priority for the state government.
The commissioner revealed that some technical issues were identified during the inspection. He assured stakeholders that the challenges would be resolved immediately to prevent delays and allow construction work to continue smoothly.
He emphasised the need to accelerate project execution, stating that the Ministry is committed to increasing the pace of work while maintaining quality standards across all construction sites.
At the Sangotedo Phase II Housing Scheme, Hon. Akinderu-Fatai expressed confidence that construction is progressing steadily. He projected that the estate would be completed between October and November this year.
The commissioner also reaffirmed the government’s determination to complete both the Sangotedo and Abraham Adesanya housing projects before the end of the current administration. He noted that the completed estates would significantly boost Lagos State’s housing stock.
According to him, the projects align with the state’s vision of providing affordable, decent, and sustainable housing opportunities for residents while supporting urban development across Lagos.
Hon. Akinderu-Fatai stressed that contractors must remain accountable because the Lagos State Government has fulfilled its obligations by providing the required financial and technical support for project implementation.
He warned that contractors are expected to increase their level of commitment and meet agreed timelines. The commissioner added that the government would not hesitate to replace contractors whose performance falls below expectations.
The commissioner also addressed concerns over previous construction delays. He explained that inflation had affected the pace of work across the building sector but noted that the government has successfully managed the challenge.
He assured residents that construction activities are now progressing with renewed momentum and that the Ministry remains focused on delivering completed housing projects without unnecessary setbacks.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to providing modern housing that meets acceptable standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. The Ministry said it will continue to strengthen project supervision and maintain close engagement with contractors and consultants.
The inspection reflects the government’s determination to improve access to quality housing, support sustainable urban development, and fulfil its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that enhances the living standards of Lagos residents.
