Health District V Holds Free Medical Outreach for Police Officers in Festac

Lagos State Health District V has organised a free medical outreach for police officers serving at Area E Command, Festac Town, to improve their health and promote access to quality healthcare.

Eko Hot News reports that the outreach aligns with the Health and Environment pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The initiative focused on promoting preventive healthcare and increasing awareness of health insurance benefits among police personnel.

Before the medical outreach began, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, paid a courtesy visit to the Area Commander, ACP Chike Godwin Oti, and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ibrahim Bakare, at the Area E Command Headquarters. The meeting centred on strengthening collaboration to improve the welfare of officers serving within the district.

Speaking during the visit, ACP Chike Godwin Oti commended the Lagos State Government and Health District V for extending healthcare services to police officers. He noted that the programme would support officers in maintaining good health, enabling them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.

Also speaking, CSP Ibrahim Bakare described the outreach as timely and beneficial. He encouraged officers to take full advantage of the free medical services and the health insurance information provided during the programme.

Addressing participants, Dr. Asiyanbi highlighted the importance of enrolling in the health insurance scheme and making proper use of the benefits available to public servants. He explained that monthly contributions are deducted from officers’ salaries and urged them to maximise the opportunities provided under the scheme.

The Permanent Secretary stated that health insurance helps reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses while improving access to quality healthcare for officers and their families. He stressed that the programme is designed to support healthier lives and encourage early access to medical services.

Dr. Asiyanbi also emphasised the importance of obtaining and safeguarding individual health insurance policy numbers. According to him, the policy number is a key requirement for accessing healthcare services and should be secured before any medical emergency arises.

He further advised officers to verify their registration details, confirm their assigned healthcare facilities, and ensure their records remain accurate and up to date. He noted that proper verification would help eliminate unnecessary delays when accessing medical care.

The Permanent Secretary encouraged the Officer in Charge of the Police Clinic, Nurse Rita Okolie, to organise regular awareness sessions on health insurance registration, policy number retrieval, and healthcare access procedures. He said continuous education would improve officers’ understanding and utilisation of available healthcare services.

The outreach featured free medical consultations, health screenings, tuberculosis screening, eye examinations with free eyeglasses, health education sessions, and other preventive healthcare services designed to promote healthy living among police personnel.

The initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to improving the welfare of frontline security personnel through accessible healthcare programmes and strengthened partnerships across public institutions.
