The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has announced plans to honour outstanding corps members with Certificates of Meritorious Service for their contributions to consumer rights advocacy.
Eko Hot News reports that the recognition will be awarded to the first set of NYSC/LASCOPA Community Development Service (CDS) members. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 17, 2026, at the NYSC Secretariat.
The initiative was disclosed by the General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo. He noted that the programme reflects the agency’s commitment to promoting and protecting consumer rights in Lagos State.
Solebo explained that LASCOPA entered into a partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Lagos State Chapter. The collaboration aims to involve corps members in community development through consumer awareness campaigns.

Through this initiative, corps members have actively engaged in educating the public. They have shared information on consumer rights and responsibilities across various communities.
Their efforts have contributed to addressing key issues in the marketplace. These include the spread of fake, expired, and substandard products.
The corps members have also supported efforts to reduce unfair trade practices. Their work has helped promote a more transparent and responsible business environment.
Solebo commended the corps members for their dedication and resilience. He noted that their service has made a meaningful impact on consumer protection in the state.

According to him, their contributions are helping to build a more informed and vigilant population. This is essential for strengthening consumer confidence and trust.
The Programme Supervisor and Director of Consumer Education at LASCOPA, Folashade Asaye, provided further details on the initiative.
She revealed that over 100 corps members will receive certificates in the first batch. These recipients were drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
Asaye also highlighted the rapid growth of the CDS group. Membership has expanded from about 100 to over 500 corps members.

She described the increase as a sign of growing interest in consumer advocacy. More young people are becoming involved in promoting awareness and accountability.
The Director advised outgoing members to continue upholding consumer rights. She encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained in their daily activities and future careers.
The recognition programme highlights the role of youth in public education. It also shows how partnerships can strengthen community-based initiatives.

Observers believe that engaging corps members in advocacy creates lasting impact. It helps spread awareness across different communities in a structured way.
The upcoming ceremony is expected to celebrate dedication and service. It will also inspire more participation in consumer protection efforts.
As LASCOPA continues its programmes, the agency remains focused on strengthening awareness. The goal is to ensure that residents are better informed and protected in their transactions.
