The Lagos State Government on Thursday held its 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing, with the Office of the Special Adviser on Enterprise Geographic Information System (E-GIS) and Urban Development presenting major achievements recorded in digital land administration, urban planning, and smart city development initiatives.

EKO HOT NEWS reports that the briefing took place at the State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, as part of activities marking Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s seventh year in office.

Speaking during the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, highlighted the office’s contributions toward improving urban management and advancing technology-driven governance in Lagos State.

According to Dr. Babatunde, the Lagos State Government has continued to leverage Geographic Information System technology to strengthen urban planning, improve land administration, and support sustainable infrastructure development across the state.

He explained that the E-GIS initiative remains one of the key pillars of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision to build a smarter, more efficient, and globally competitive Lagos.

The Special Adviser noted that digital innovation has significantly improved transparency in land management processes, reduced bureaucratic bottlenecks, and enhanced access to reliable geographic and property-related data for government agencies, investors, and residents.

He further stated that the E-GIS office has played a critical role in digital land titling and data-driven urban development policies designed to address the growing demands of Africa’s most populous city.

Dr. Babatunde also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustainable development, stressing that proper urban planning remains essential to tackling challenges associated with population growth, housing, transportation, and environmental management.
