Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has overseen the signing of three power purchase agreements aimed at improving electricity supply and strengthening public infrastructure across Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the agreements were finalised at Lagos House Marina as part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance energy reliability and efficiency.

The newly signed agreements involve key energy providers, including Fenchurch Power, Mainland Power, and Viathan, each assigned to support specific areas and facilities within the state.

Fenchurch Power will provide electricity to major water infrastructure in Adiyan and Iju, ensuring improved operations in critical public utilities. The move is expected to enhance water supply services for residents.

Mainland Power will continue supplying electricity to areas such as Ikeja, Oshodi, and Anthony. The agreement also allows for future expansion to accommodate growing demand within these communities.

Viathan will maintain stable power supply to key facilities on Lagos Island. The company is also expected to improve integration with the broader electricity distribution network across the state.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the agreements have been updated to reflect current market realities. He emphasised that the state is adopting a more accountable approach to energy procurement and service delivery.

Under the revised terms, Lagos will only pay for electricity that is actually delivered. Payments are now tied to metered supply, ensuring transparency and reducing unnecessary costs.

The governor explained that this approach will help the state manage resources more efficiently while improving service delivery. It is also expected to reduce waste associated with previous arrangements.

He added that the agreements will contribute to more reliable power supply for public infrastructure, including water systems and other essential services. This is expected to positively impact residents and businesses.

The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen Lagos State’s energy capacity. It also aligns with efforts to support economic growth through improved infrastructure.

Officials noted that the agreements provide a clear framework for scaling power capacity in the coming years. This will help Lagos meet increasing energy demands as the city continues to expand.

The development underscores the state government’s commitment to sustainable growth and efficient service delivery. It also reflects a focus on innovation and accountability in the energy sector.
