 The Lagos State Government has engaged key stakeholders on the proposed Lagos Cleaner Energy Schools Innovation Challenge (LCESIC) 2026, an initiative designed to promote clean energy awareness and environmental sustainability among secondary school students.

Eko Hot News reports that the stakeholder meeting was held at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Conference Room in Alausa, Ikeja, bringing together government agencies, education institutions, development partners, and industry players.

The initiative aims to inspire innovation, creativity, and early exposure of students to opportunities within the green economy and renewable energy sector.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, said the programme is designed to build a pipeline of young talents capable of driving sustainable energy solutions in the future.

He stressed that strong partnerships between government, academia, and the private sector are essential for the success of the project.

According to him, the challenge will serve as a platform to nurture problem-solvers who can contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability in Lagos State.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. (Mrs.) Ibilola Kasunmu, described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development.

She noted that equipping young people with critical thinking and innovation skills is key to building future-ready energy systems.

A technical presentation at the meeting outlined the framework and implementation plan for the pilot programme.

The presentation was delivered by Dr. Yetty Ogunnubi of YD Company alongside Engr. Iyaniwura Ademola of the Ministry.

They explained that the pilot programme will run for six weeks and will expose students to hands-on projects in renewable energy and sustainability.

Focus areas include energy efficiency, waste-to-energy solutions, and environmental innovation.

Stakeholders contributed recommendations on programme design, mentorship, evaluation methods, and school participation strategies.

Participants commended the Ministry for the initiative and pledged support for its successful rollout.

The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening clean energy awareness and promoting youth innovation across Lagos State.

Officials said the project will help position Lagos as a leader in green economy education and sustainable development in Africa.

The initiative is expected to deepen collaboration among stakeholders while preparing students for future opportunities in clean energy industries.
