The Lagos State Government has postponed the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers earlier scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, following the declaration of the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.
Eko Hot News reports that the announcement was made by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board after consultations with relevant stakeholders.
According to the Board, the 2026 BECE commenced successfully on Monday, June 29, with only a minor adjustment made to the examination timetable.
The affected examination papers have been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 7, 2026, while all other papers will be conducted on their originally approved dates.
The state government said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of candidates, examination officials, and other stakeholders involved in the exercise.
Officials explained that the adjustment will also help guarantee the smooth, orderly, and uninterrupted conduct of the remaining examinations across the state.
The Lagos State Examinations Board expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, school administrators, candidates, and the public for their understanding and cooperation.
It acknowledged that the timetable adjustment may cause some inconvenience but emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of all participants.
Candidates have been advised to obtain the revised examination timetable from their respective schools and prepare adequately for the rescheduled papers.
School authorities are also expected to communicate the updated schedule promptly to students and parents to avoid confusion.
The Board reiterated its commitment to conducting examinations that are credible, transparent, and well-coordinated across Lagos State.
Education officials noted that the revised timetable ensures that no candidate will be disadvantaged as a result of the schedule adjustment.
Parents and guardians have been encouraged to support candidates by ensuring they remain focused and adequately prepared ahead of the new examination date.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education reaffirmed its commitment to providing a conducive environment for academic activities while prioritising the welfare of learners and education stakeholders.
The examination body also assured candidates that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the rescheduled papers are conducted without disruption.
The Lagos State Government continues to work with schools and relevant authorities to uphold high educational standards and ensure the successful completion of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination.
