About 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia will begin their return journey to Nigeria on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Eko Hot News reports that the announcement was made by the Amir-ul-Hajj and Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, through a statement issued by the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, in Makkah.
According to officials, the return airlift will follow the schedule approved by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), ensuring an orderly transportation process.
The first flight is expected to depart on June 8, with subsequent flights scheduled for June 10, June 11, June 12, and the final batch on June 13, 2026.
Authorities stated that the phased arrangement is designed to ensure smooth coordination and safe movement of all pilgrims back to Lagos State.
Pilgrims were advised to strictly comply with luggage regulations, which include two 23kg bags and one 8kg hand luggage allowance.
Officials also cautioned against carrying prohibited items, including water and other restricted materials, to ensure smooth airport procedures.
Hon. Layode urged pilgrims to remain patient and cooperate fully with officials throughout the return process.
He assured that all Lagos pilgrims would be safely airlifted back home without delay or disruption.
The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for their support during the Hajj operations.
He noted that their leadership and encouragement contributed significantly to the success of the pilgrimage exercise.
The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and welfare of all returning pilgrims.
Officials said coordination with relevant national agencies remains ongoing to ensure seamless logistics during the return process.
The pilgrimage exercise was described as successful, with arrangements put in place to manage both departure and return operations efficiently.
Families of pilgrims have been assured that arrival updates will be communicated as each flight returns to Nigeria.
The state government emphasized its continued commitment to improving Hajj operations and supporting pilgrims in future exercises.
