 The Lagos State Safety Commission has issued a precautionary advisory to hospitality and social establishments across the state following global health alerts concerning Ebola outbreaks in parts of Central and East Africa.

Eko Hot News reports that The advisory was issued by the Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, who urged operators of public venues to strengthen preventive measures and health safety protocols.

Mojola clarified that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Lagos State or anywhere in Nigeria.

He, however, noted that Lagos remains a major international travel and business destination, making preparedness and vigilance essential.

The Safety Commission called on operators of hotels, event centres, lounges, restaurants, and entertainment venues to take proactive steps to protect patrons and staff.

According to Mojola, establishments should immediately ensure the availability of hand hygiene facilities at entrances and other strategic locations.

He advised operators to provide running water, liquid soap, and alcohol-based hand sanitisers for public use.

The Director-General also urged businesses to increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces.

Areas such as door handles, countertops, handrails, payment terminals, menus, and shared facilities were highlighted for regular sanitation.

Mojola stressed the need for hospitality businesses to train employees on basic health awareness and early symptom identification.

He encouraged management teams to conduct routine staff wellness checks and promote responsible health practices in the workplace.

The advisory further recommended that workers experiencing symptoms of illness should remain at home until they are fully fit.

Hospitality centres were also advised to designate temporary isolation spaces for anyone who may suddenly fall ill while on their premises.

According to the Commission, such spaces should be properly ventilated and suitable for temporary observation pending professional medical attention.

Venue operators were equally encouraged to monitor crowd sizes and prevent excessive congestion during events and gatherings.

The Commission noted that proper ventilation remains an important component of maintaining healthy indoor environments.

Mojola appealed to business owners to remain calm and avoid spreading unnecessary concern among residents.

He emphasised that the advisory is purely preventive and intended to strengthen public health readiness.

The Director-General assured residents that relevant authorities are working closely with health agencies to monitor developments globally.

He added that the Commission will intensify routine inspections and support visits to ensure compliance with safety guidelines.

Mojola reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public health through proactive planning and collaboration with stakeholders.

He urged all hospitality and social centres to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with health and safety authorities.

The Commission maintained that collective responsibility and strict adherence to preventive measures remain key to sustaining a safe environment for everyone.
