The Lagos State Government has recognised two outstanding members of staff in the Office of Physical Planning with the Second Quarter Officer of the Quarter Awards, celebrating excellence, dedication and exceptional public service.

Eko Hot News reports that the award presentation was held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, where officials commended the recipients for their commitment to duty and outstanding performance.

The Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, said the initiative was introduced to acknowledge officers who consistently demonstrate professionalism, integrity and excellence in carrying out their responsibilities.

According to the commissioner, recognising exceptional performance is an effective way to motivate workers and encourage a culture of productivity across the ministry.

Dr. Olumide praised the award recipients for their diligence and dedication, noting that their commitment reflects the standards expected of public servants in Lagos State.

He urged other members of staff to remain focused on delivering quality service while embracing innovation and accountability in their daily responsibilities.

The commissioner added that the Lagos State Government remains committed to creating a work environment where excellence is recognised and rewarded.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu, congratulated the awardees on their achievement.

Ogunkelu reminded the recipients that recognition comes with greater responsibility, encouraging them to maintain the high standards that earned them the honour.

He also urged them to continue serving as positive examples for their colleagues while contributing to the growth and development of the ministry.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Adebayo Wasiu, described the awards as a reflection of the value placed on commitment and hard work within the public service.

He encouraged the recipients to build on their achievements and continue striving for greater excellence in their respective roles.

Tpl. Wasiu also challenged all members of staff to remain innovative, disciplined and committed to achieving the strategic goals of the Office of Physical Planning.

He noted that sustained dedication and professionalism remain essential to improving service delivery and supporting the Lagos State Government’s development agenda.

The awards were presented in two categories to recognise both senior and junior members of staff for their exceptional contributions.

Tpl. Raji Sikiru Abimbola, a Chief Town Planning Officer, received the Management Officer of the Quarter Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and professional performance.

Mr. Michael Ubong Samuel, a Chief Clerical Officer, was honoured with the Junior Officer of the Quarter Award for his dedication, efficiency and commitment to service.

The recognition reflects the ministry’s continued efforts to promote a culture of excellence by celebrating employees who consistently exceed expectations in their official duties.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, Tpl. Raji Sikiru Abimbola expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the ministry for the recognition.

He said the award would inspire both recipients to remain committed to professionalism, integrity and efficient public service.

Abimbola also pledged that they would continue to uphold the values of excellence while supporting the ministry’s mission of delivering quality physical planning services across Lagos State.

The Office of Physical Planning plays a vital role in shaping sustainable urban development through effective planning policies, regulatory oversight and coordinated physical development across the state.

The Officer of the Quarter initiative is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to encourage merit, reward performance and strengthen employee motivation within the Lagos State Public Service.

Observers say programmes that recognise excellence among public servants contribute to higher productivity, stronger institutional performance and improved service delivery to residents.

The Lagos State Government has consistently emphasised the importance of rewarding dedication and professionalism as part of its commitment to building an efficient and responsive public service.

By recognising exemplary officers, the government aims to inspire other employees to pursue excellence while contributing meaningfully to the state’s development objectives.

The award ceremony concluded with renewed calls for teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement as the ministry continues its efforts to enhance physical planning and urban development across Lagos.
