The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of activities for the Ajah–Ibeju-Lekki (Eleko) Junction Community Electrification Project, aimed at addressing persistent power supply challenges along the Lekki-Ibeju corridor. The notice was issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in line with the state’s sustainable development objectives.

Eko Hot News reports that the electrification project is being executed in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company to improve electricity infrastructure and strengthen energy reliability in the fast-growing axis. The initiative also aligns with the State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019 (as amended).

The government acknowledged that several communities within Lekki and Ibeju-Lekki have faced unstable electricity supply for over 15 to 20 years. Authorities described the project as a long-term intervention designed to deliver a permanent solution to power shortages affecting residents and businesses.

As part of the project scope, the state will facilitate the Right of Way (RoW) for the installation of a 132kV bulk power transmission line from the Ajah Transmission Substation to Eleko Junction. The transmission line will span approximately 38 kilometres with an expanded RoW width of 104 metres to accommodate critical infrastructure.

The project also includes the construction of a 132kV injection substation at Eleko Junction. This development is expected to enhance grid stability, improve power distribution efficiency, and support increasing energy demand across the Lekki-Ibeju corridor.

Officials noted that improved electricity supply will boost economic activities, enhance living standards, and support ongoing investments within the rapidly developing region. Reliable power infrastructure is also expected to strengthen business operations and attract further investment into Lagos.
