 The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has hosted a one-day security awareness seminar for Muslim women, aimed at strengthening community vigilance and improving public safety across the state.

Eko Hot News reports that the seminar, themed “Security Awareness: When You See Something, Say Something,” was held on May 20, 2026, at the Office of the First Lady in Lagos State.

It focused on encouraging residents to report suspicious activities promptly and take active roles in preventing crime within their communities.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) used the occasion to emphasize the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and property.

Speaking at the event, the facilitator, Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, FISN, reiterated that security is a shared duty that extends beyond law enforcement agencies.

He noted that citizens play a vital role in identifying and reporting potential threats such as trafficking, cultism, theft, violence, and abuse.

Dr. Oyekan stressed that early detection and timely reporting remain key to preventing security breaches in communities across Lagos State.

He urged participants to remain vigilant, trust their instincts, and avoid exposing themselves to unnecessary risks.

The facilitator also highlighted the importance of cooperation between residents and security agencies in maintaining peace and order.

He explained that strong community engagement is essential for building a safer and more responsive security system.

In his presentation, Dr. Oyekan incorporated an Islamic perspective on security, referencing the concept of Hifz al-Nafs, which emphasizes the protection of human life.

He cited Quran 5:32, reminding participants that preserving one life is equivalent to preserving humanity as a whole.

According to the LNSA, the seminar was designed to improve security consciousness and encourage proactive participation in community safety efforts.

The agency stated that the programme also aimed to help residents identify warning signs of criminal activity and strengthen collaboration with security operatives.

Participants were advised to remain alert in their daily activities and report any suspicious behaviour to the appropriate authorities without delay.

The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance public safety and strengthen community policing structures.

It also supports the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat in promoting a secure and peaceful Lagos.

The LNSA reaffirmed its commitment to community-based security awareness programmes across the state.

It called on residents to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at improving security architecture and public safety outcomes.
