The Lagos State Government is set to host the ninth edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s music ecosystem and promote Africa’s creative economy.
Eko Hot News reports that AFRIMA 2026 will run from January 7 to January 11, with activities spread across key locations in Lagos.
The programme lineup includes the AFRIMA Music Business Summit, the AFRIMA Music Village concert at Ikeja City Mall, and the grand awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday at Eko Hotels and Suites.
Speaking at a press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to supporting the creative industry.

She described Lagos as Africa’s cultural and creative capital, stressing the state’s resolve to encourage cross-cultural collaboration and position arts and culture as drivers of development.
Benson-Awoyinka said AFRIMA has grown into one of Africa’s most influential platforms for recognising musical excellence and promoting the continent’s creative economy globally.
She appreciated strategic partners, including the British High Commission, for supporting cultural exchange and creative diplomacy.
According to her, AFRIMA 2026 will bring together artists, producers, policymakers, and creative entrepreneurs, while highlighting the sector’s role in employment, tourism, and youth empowerment.
She congratulated nominees and participants, noting that AFRIMA amplifies African voices and showcases the continent’s diversity and competitiveness.
Also speaking, AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mr. Mike Dada, said Lagos was selected as host city due to its infrastructure, capacity, and cultural influence.

He noted that AFRIMA aligns with African Union development frameworks, including Agenda 2063, and serves as a platform for peace-building and continental integration.
Co-producer Mr. Olisa Adibua commended Lagos State for its consistent support for the creative economy.
He disclosed that about 6,000 free tickets would be provided through the state government for youths to attend the AFRIMA Music Village concert.
