The Lagos State Health District III recently organised a specialised training programme for Environmental Health Officers, nurses, and midwives, focusing on water testing, sample collection, and in-house orientation for newly recruited personnel.

Eko Hot News reports that the training, held at the Health District III Office in Ikoyi, is part of a broader strategy to equip officers with the skills needed to address emerging environmental health challenges effectively.

Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, Permanent Secretary of Health District III, noted that the programme aimed to develop resourceful, skilled, and proactive officers capable of improving public health outcomes.

The session covered proper waste segregation, handling, and disposal practices in line with established environmental health standards. Participants were urged to apply this knowledge at their respective duty posts for maximum impact.

Dr. Adeleke encouraged newly recruited nurses, midwives, and Environmental Health Officers to see their roles as more than job descriptions, describing them as frontline heroes of the healthcare system who should embrace curiosity and continuous learning.

She emphasised that the training is an opportunity to cascade knowledge to colleagues and enhance service delivery across all facilities within the district.

Earlier, Mary Akinola, Director of Environmental Health Services, highlighted the importance of transitioning from analogue methods to digital and scientific approaches in environmental health practices.

The training reinforced the need for officers to remain energetic, committed, and innovative in tackling public health challenges, particularly in water safety and sanitation.

Officials noted that the programme is aligned with Lagos State’s vision for a modern, efficient, and science-driven health system, equipping personnel to meet both current and future environmental health demands.
